1. Pakistan's Hindu Girls Suffering in Silence

Living in America, its hard to imagine what Hindu girls and their families must endure in Pakistan.  A recent report by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) warns of a disturbing rise in the kidnappings and forced conversions of young Pakistani Hindu girls.  According to several sources, approximately 20 to 25 Hindu girls are kidnapped and converted to Islam every month in the southern Sindh province alone.  Often, after being abducted, these girls are raped, sold off, or forced into prostitution.  Moreover, the families of the victims are helpless in securing the return of their daughters and are frequently threatened and intimidated by the police.  One would expect that such appalling incidents would garner significant attention from the international community, but the depressing reality is otherwise.  In fact, its rare to see human rights groups even mention the plight of these vulnerable Pakistani girls, much less advocate on their behalf.  I’m not sure what’s worse though, the continued violation of these girls or the deafening silence from international human rights organizations and women’s rights groups.
