Mormons, Move Away From the Baptismal Tank
For those who haven’t heard of this news, it has been a Mormon practice for some time now to do proxy baptisms for people of other faiths who have passed away, in order to offer them a chance at “salvation.” I myself heard of this only last week via an NPR interview that talked about how Mormons were doing proxy baptisms of Jews, including those who died in the Holocaust. Yesterday, we found out from the Huffington Post that they were doing the same to Hindus, including Mahatma Gandhi. As our Managing Director Suhag Shukla put it in the article, such acts are “deeply offensive” and are “diametrically opposed” to the Hindu view of the soul. If the Mormon church is serious about curbing this practice, then they need to take steps immediately to make sure their members do not attempt to give Hindus, Jews, or those of any other faith proxy baptisms.
