Site5 Hosting Review: Site5 Hosts Islamic Terrorist Website
If you are considering hosting your website on Site5, or if you currently do, I strongly advise you to host your site elsewhere. Site5 Hosting (site5.com) currently hosts shariah4hind.com, an Islamic fundamentalist website, that calls for imposition of shariah law in India.
What is Shariah and Shariah4Hind?
Shariah is a moral code and religious law of Islam. There are many interpretations of Shariah, but the most notorious and arguably well-known interpretation is that of the Taliban who advocate for the subjugation of women, the destruction of non-Islamic places of worship, and public executions.
Shariah4Hind is a website calling for the imposition of Shariah law in India. Similar to the Taliban, they advocate for violence against elected officials, the destruction of non-Islamic places of worship, and calls for the overthrow of the democratically elected secular government of India.
Who is behind Shariah4Hind?
The site was founded by Anjem Choudary who was one of the founding members of the radical Islamist group Islam4UK. Islam4UK was banned in 2010 by the British Government.
The individuals behind the site are also involved with Al-Muhajiroun, another terrorist organization banned by the British Government under UK Terrorism Act 2000. This group has been involved with several terrorist acts.
On the 29 April 2003, Asif Hanif who attended some of Al-Muhajiroun's circles carried out a bombing of a café in Tel Aviv, Israel that killed three people and injured 60 others. In 2006, another individual connected with Al-Muhajiroun allegedly detonated a bomb in India, killing himself and destroying an army barracks.
In 2007, five young Muslims with Al-Muhajiroun connections — Omar Khyam, Waheed Mahmood, Anthony Garcia, Jawad Akbar and Saladhuddin Amin — were convicted of a multiple bombing plot to use fertiliser bombs "which police say could have killed hundreds of British people. The men were caught after police and MI5 launched a massive surveillance operation."
What is Site5 doing about this?
Nothing. This website has been brought to the attention of Site5, but their response is as follows:
“After personally reading the site, I can certainly understand why you, and perhaps most people, would be offended by this site. At Site5, however, we believe that freedom of speech and freedom of expression are absolutely crucial to civil society. Therefore, as long as a site's content does not break any laws, does not directly threaten any person or group, and is not obscene or pornographic, we will not censor it.”
Even going by Site5’s interpretation of their own terms of service, Shariah4Hind clearly advocates for the imposition of shariah law. It clearly threatens various elected officials (by name), non-Muslims (who do not want to have their places of worship destroyed), and more broadly anyone in India who does not want to live under the imposition of shariah law.
Simply put, Site5 only cares about their $4.95 per month that they get from this website.
What can I do about it?
If you currently hosting or are considering hosting your website at Site5, I would strongly advise you to move to another webhost. Here’s a couple of quick reasons:
- Given that Site5 is refusing to enforce their terms of service, it’s likely Site5 is hosting other websites that also have violent, obscene, or unlawful materials.
- Do you want your site to be on the same virtual machine, physical machine, or even server room as a banned terrorist organization?
