Cops told to remove religious bracelet

IOL: News for South Africa and the World

A Hindu policeman at the Pinetown police station in Durban says his constitutional rights were violated after he was ordered to remove a red, religiously symbolic, string from his wrist.

It is customary for Hindus to wear a red thread that is given at the beginning of a religious ceremony. It is intended to symbolise a blessing or form of protection to the wearer.
