PETALING JAYA: Hundreds of devotees gathered at Hindu temples nationwide to mark the start of the Tamil New Year, Puthandu.

At the Sri Sithi Vinayagar in Jalan Templer here, dawn prayers were followed by the reading of the panjangam (Tamil almanac) in the evening to find out what the Vijaya year holds.

KUALA LUMPUR: Hindraf chairman P. Waytha Moorthy has called off his hunger strike after he collapsed as he entered Day 21 of his strike in his quest to improve conditions for the Malaysian Indian community.

Hindraf deputy chairman W. Sumbalingan said Waytha Moorthy lost consciousness at around 4pm Sunday at a temple in Rawang where he is holding his strike.

BALING: Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Datuk Zulkifli Noordin has apologised to Hindus for the hurt he caused them in a speech made during his time with PAS, admitting it was a mistake and that he was remorseful.
